This past week has been an exciting time of learning, unlearning and re-learning at AHI. You can almost tell from the title of this blog — we have been learning how to effectively use social media for social development.
The three-day training was packed full. First we reviewed some selected social media platforms, then we examined where we are and what more we needed to do as individuals and as an organization, to better maximize the social media sphere. We also explored what other local and global organizations were doing online– in sum, how do non-profits communicate and advocate? We looked at some do’s and don’ts to help us be better communicators and advocates.
It wasn’t all talk. By the end of each session, participants were given assignments. For example, after exploring the Twitter platform, they were asked to set set up their accounts and get started on sharpening their “tweeting skills”. Also, participants were asked to create a blog and explore how that platform can be used to express their views.
